Lunch at The Slanted Door

We met up with my old high school buddy Linda at the Ferry Building in the city. After a long wait, we had lunch at The Slanted Door. It was nearly worth the wait: the restaurant's new location is sleek and airy, the service is friendly, and the food was fresh, presented well, and tasty.

Having said all that, I have to agree with those who feel the restaurant doesn't live up to its hype. Like an outstanding university orchestra that people occasionally compare to a professional orchestra: you go with high expectations and come away just a little disappointed -- and feel somewhat guilty for your own disappointment.

Maybe our tastebuds are too informed by the working-class Vietnamese restaurants out there that don't serve the pretentious $5 teas. :-)Posted by Hello
