A special July 4th treat: we visited a house in Redwood City with its own backyard railway, complete with its own working steam engine! The kids had a great time, as you would expect. The railway engineers were running the engine on propane that day (to accomodate the big crowds), but apparently it will actually burn coal as well.
I'm not sure how their neighbors felt about it, but it was all quite remarkable. Read more about the railway here.
